Emily, who usually lives and works in Spain, has joined our US team and is working from The Big Apple for the next four months while she continues her studies. Below, she has shared her experience of an iconic Christmas in New York so that we can live vicariously through her.

“The holiday season is in full swing, with colorful lights dripping from every block and red ribbons and evergreen sprigs lining the streets. The hustle and bustle feel a lot cuter when everyone is in earmuffs and mittens. It’s Christmas time in New York City, baby! And it is magical.

From the moment I arrived in New York City in November, I’ve witnessed my first true changes in season, the leaves turning from fiery orange to mud brown, and now, rumors of the first snowfall to come. As a California native, the only “white Christmas” I’ve ever had has been white sand from the beach! Now it’s giant, shiny decorations, countless Santa Clauses running the streets, and the taste of hot cider keeping me warm. There is a holiday spirit so contagious, even Scrooge would be ice skating through Central Park.

Christmas in New York - apples

Visiting the Christmas markets is a must in New York during the holidays, so I was excited to explore the quirky booths at Union Square and Bryant Park. From there, passing the gorgeous New York Public Library and strolling North through the streets of Midtown (preferably with an apple cider donut), the crowd builds until the Saks Fifth Avenue light show stopped me dead in my tracks. And just behind me, the infamous Rockefeller tree lit up in all its glory. Everything in New York City - the skyline, the people, the food, the culture- jives together into this perfect blend of organized, idyllic chaos.

It’s such a joy helping our SMTP2GO customers on this side of the world, as well as working with the amazing Americas-based team. One of the beautiful perks of working digitally is the freedom to work from where I want. When I got an opportunity to come to New York City for my studies, I couldn’t say no. Thanks to SMTP2GO, I didn’t have to!”
