The PowerSchool SIS (Student Information System) allows custom SMTP relaying for email messaging. This guide will help configure your PowerSchool SIS to use the SMTP2GO platform.

Step 1

  1. In PowerSchool on the start page, choose System under Setup in the main menu. The System Administrator page appears.
  2. Under Server, click System Settings. The System Settings page appears.
  3. Click Email. The Email Setup page appears. By default the Email Setup tab appears selected.

Step 2

For ‘POP/SMTP Server‘, enter the server name: mail.smtp2go.com
Note: If you must enter a static IP, please see our connecting to an IP Address article for all available options.

For ‘Use Advanced Email Settings‘, click the switch to ‘On‘.

For ‘Email Transport Configuration Parameters’ enter the following:

Use SMTP Authentication: Click the switch to On to enable SMTP authentication.

Username
: Enter a username from your SMTP2GO account’s Settings > SMTP Users section.

Password: Enter the specific password associated with the username from your SMTP2GO account’s Settings > SMTP Users section.

SSL Mode: Choose the connection method.

Allow unsecure SSL ciphers: Click the switch to On to enable SSL ciphers. When you enable this option, a checkbox appears. Select the checkbox to allow PowerSchool to use a large set of encryption options (ciphers) to communicate with the SFTP server. Deselect the checkbox to allow PowerSchool to use the most secure encryption options (ciphers) to communicate with the SFTP server. This is the more secure option.

Port Number: SMTP2GO offers the following port options:

SSL
: available on ports 465, 8465 and 443.
TLS or no encryption: available on ports 25, 2525, 8025, 587 and 80.

Note: If you do not enter a port number, the system defaults to 25.

Step 3

Go to the Test Email tab to send a test email in PowerSchool.

Enter detail into the following fields:

From – Enter the email address of the sender of the test email message.
To – Enter the email address of the receiver of the test email message.
Subject – Enter a description of the test email message.
Message – Enter the text of the test email message.

Click Submit.
