McDonalds has recently announced (as of mid-January 2010) that its Wifi service, something that you previously had to pay for, is now completely free!
This is great news for everyone with a laptop or iPhone who needs to access their email while on the road.
McDonalds has also introduced strict rules for sending emails, so you’ll need an SMTP server that uses SSL and port 465 in order to send emails from email software such as Outlook or Thunderbird. SMTP2GO provides an SMTP server that can be used in McDonalds free wifi hotspots, as it can be used with SSL and port 465.
In order to use SMTP2GO, you’ll firstly need to signup for an account, which start at $5 per month.
Then, setting up your email software is a matter of making sure you have the following settings:
SMTP server: smtpcorp.com
SMTP port: 465
SSL: Turned ON
