Orange SMTP server in France

0

We have had reports that the ISP Orange, in France, has blocked the use of any external SMTP server other than their own.

This is the only ISP in the world that we are currently aware of that has implemented this very strict policy.

If you are using SMTP2Go, it is still worth trying to change your SMTP port to each of the following (and then attempting to send an email), to make sure that Orange haven’t simply blocked a port at your location.
Try changing your SMTP port to each of the following: 587, 2525, 8025 and 25.
NOTE: We have had reports that port 587 works at some locations.
Get a free trial to test if SMTP2Go works as a solution in your situation (remember to try using each of the above SMTP ports).

Please let us know whether you are able to send emails using SMTP2Go with any of the above ports.

If the above doesn’t work, you will likely need to change your SMTP server to smtp.orange.fr and use SMTP port 25 to be able to send emails. However, this places the management of your email delivery into Orange’s hands, and this SMTP server will likely not work from different locations around the world.

SMTP2Go provides an SMTP server that can be used with MetaTrader, and is used by many currently active MetaTrader users.

To setup SMTP2Go as the SMTP server in your MetaTrader software, you firstly need an SMTP2Go account, which you can get by signing up.

You then need to apply the following settings in your MetaTrader software (click the image to enlarge):

metatrader_smtp

Make sure to enter an email address in the ‘From’ field that you have registered with SMTP2Go, and click ‘Test’ to see if everything is working as it should!

If you are still unable to send emails, try entering smtp2go.com:587 or smtp2go.com:8025 as the SMTP server.

We have also had reports that MetaTrader sometimes fails to properly change SMTP settings. If you are still unable to send, please do the following:

- close MetaTrader
- delete the email.ini file in your MT4 ‘config’ folder
- open MetaTrader and re-enter the email settings

SMTP Server for McDonalds Free Wifi

mcdonalds-wifi-smtpMcDonalds has recently announced (as of mid-January 2010) that its Wifi service, something that you previously had to pay for, is now completely free! This is great news for everyone with a laptop or iPhone who needs to access their email while on the road.

McDonalds has also introduced strict rules for sending emails, so you’ll need an SMTP server that uses SSL and port 465 in order to send emails from email software such as Outlook or Thunderbird. SMTP2Go provides an SMTP server that can be used in McDonalds free wifi hotspots, as it can be used with SSL and port 465.

In order to use SMTP2Go, you’ll firstly need to signup for an account, which start at less than $2 per month.
Then, setting up your email software is a matter of making sure you have the following settings:

SMTP server: smtp2go.com
SMTP port: 465
SSL: Turned ON

Verizon Wireless SMTP Server Has Been Shut Down – An Alternative

Verizon Wireless has shut down their SMTP service as of Saturday, August 29th, 2009. The announcement on their website said the following:

“After a careful analysis of email messaging, Verizon Wireless has decided to no longer keep and maintain the SMTP Mail Relay Service. As part of our commitment to ensure that our customers are provided with the best possible user experience, Verizon Wireless manages a wide variety of services offered to customers.  Verizon Wireless considered this service, along with the needs of our customers, and decided that there are better alternatives for our customers than the SMTP Mail Relay Service.”

The suggested solution is to use another SMTP server. SMTP2Go is an example of an SMTP server that would be able to take the place of Verizon’s old SMTP service.

An SMTP Server for Xerox WorkCentres

Xerox WorkCentres have a feature called ‘Scan to E-mail’ which can be used to send emails. The feature works great as long as you have an SMTP server that can either authenticate using what is known as ‘POP before SMTP authentication’, or can authenticate based on the ‘From’ email address that is used.

SMTP2Go provides an SMTP server that authenticates based on the ‘From’ email address used, and can therefore be used with Xerox WorkCentres. Gmail’s SMTP server normally doesn’t work, as it requires that SSL is used.

Some example Xerox WorkCentre models that work with SMTP2Go are M118i, M24, M20, M20i, 4150 and 7132. All WorkCentre models will work with SMTP2Go.

SMTP2Go is available by clicking here.

Please note: some Xerox WorkCentres may still have a problem sending – if this is the case, use the IP address of 207.58.142.213 instead of smtp2go.com as the SMTP server.

An example configuration screen, showing SMTP2Go setup on a Xerox Phaser 6180 MFP is below. Note that all POP server settings (not shown in the image below, but further down the settings page) should be blank – otherwise the machine may try to perform ‘POP before SMTP authentication’, which won’t work. The Xerox Phaser works with ports 8025 and 25.

An SMTP Server that Doesn’t Require Authentication

Many devices have a need to send emails through an SMTP server. The problem that many people face is that a large number of these devices do not have any place in their settings to enter an SMTP username or password — otherwise known as SMTP authentication. In order to get these devices to work, you need an SMTP that can work with no authentication.

SMTP2Go provides an SMTP server that doesn’t require authentication, and can thus be used by these devices (routers, webcams, faxes, printers, security devices, storage devices etc.) The Linksys NAS200 (pictured) is an example of a device that needs an SMTP server that doesn’t require authentication. Please note that Gmail’s SMTP server cannot be used in these situations, as it requires that a username and password be used.

SMTP server to use with Sharp fax machines (UX-B800SE and UX-D1200SE)

Some Sharp fax machines require a certain type of SMTP server in order to be able to send emails. SMTP2Go provides an SMTP server that authenticates senders based on their ‘from’ email address, meaning that it works with fax machines that are unable to send an SMTP username or password.

Two examples of SMTP setup procedures for popular Sharp fax machines are below:

Sharp UX-B800SE and UX-D1200SE Broadband Fax SMTP setup

In the ‘Network Settings’ area, enter smtp2go.com as the SMTP server, and UNCHECK  the box ‘POP before SMTP’. Try entering either port 2525, 25, or 587 as the outgoing SMTP port. Then, make sure you are sending ‘from’ an email address that is registered with SMTP2Go.

See a sample screenshot from the UX-B800SE fax below (click on it to enlarge):

Please note that Gmail’s SMTP server doesn’t work, as it not only requires a username/password, but it also requires that SSL/TLS is used.

Please note: some fax machines may still have a problem sending – if this is the case, use the IP address of 207.58.142.213 instead of smtp2go.com as the SMTP server.

How to Avoid Gmail’s “on behalf of” message – use a different SMTP server

Recently Gmail has provided a new feature which allows their users to get around a problem which has been complained about for years .
The old problem was this:  if you wanted to send emails from an email address that is not your Gmail email address, you had to accept the fact that many email clients would display the email as coming from “username@gmail.com On Behalf Of mycustomaddress@mydomain.com“.

To get around this problem, Gmail now lets you choose to send through a custom SMTP server. SMTP2Go’s SMTP server is an example of one that will work in this situation. You can use smtp2go.com as the custom SMTP server, choose to use either port 25 or 587 in the port dropdown box, and then enter your full billing email address as the username, and your password as the password.

To switch to this new method, go to the Accounts page under Settings, and click “edit info” next to the email address that you want to send from (in the “Send mail as” section). If you haven’t yet added this email address, click the “Send mail from another address button” and add it. Then choose the option to “Use your other email provider’s SMTP servers.”

This post explains the situation in more detail:

See the screenshot below which shows sample SMTP2Go settings which would work:

Note that if you are adding multiple different email addresses, you should still use your billing email address as the username in each case.
